Many children in foster care carry their belongings in trash bags. Providing new or gently used suitcases or duffel bags brings some dignity. Host a luggage drive at work, your church, or bring a single bag from home. All local agencies will take luggage, but it’s always good to ask before you drop them off. New or gently used luggage only please.

The Rainbow Room is an emergency resource center available to Child Protective Service caseworkers. It consists of a store-like setting that allows workers to go “shopping” for children and families on their caseloads. The room is stocked with new items such as clothing, shoes, toys and games, diapers, formula, school supplies, hygiene products and cleaning products. See their full wish list below. Caleb’s Closet provides children’s clothing and other necessary items to foster families in the Lubbock area. They even fulfill seasonal clothing orders! They are a fantastic all-around resource for foster families to select clothing directly from the source. Donations can be dropped off any time. For location and more information email them below.

Local foster-adoptive agencies work non-stop to provide a backbone of support for foster families. Each agency has their own programs and items they work hard to keep in stock (i.e., first night kits, baby items, toys). If you’re feeling lucky, reach out to an agency and simply ask what needs they have this week—they would LOVE to hear from you! See our agency list for places to contact.

Foster a Life is a unique local organization that strives to help kids in foster care find some normalcy by granting dreams they’ve never got to experience: from playing on a summer baseball team to taking art classes, from joining mission trips to buying prom dresses. Foster A Life does not take donated items, but they do take donations! Rest assured it is a 100% volunteer operated organization whose funds are used exclusively to grant the dreams of kids in foster care.
